Cambodia Ends Mandatory Facemask Wearing and Rapid Test for Mass Gathering

Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen this afternoon announced to end the mandatory facemask wearing and rapid test for COVID-19 at any mass gathering.

“Our New Year celebration was held without COVID-19 infections, therefore the Royal Government, at the request from Ministry of Health, would like to end the mandatory wearing of facemask […] and COVID-19 rapid test for any mass gathering,” he underlined in a voice message this afternoon.

Anyway, the Premier continued, one can choose to wear facemask or do a rapid test if s/he does not feel well.

“Tomorrow, I will preside over the inauguration ceremony of a Maternity Building at the National Pediatric Hospital. Even though mandatory facemask wearing and rapid test were revoked, any individual can do so if they wish,” he added.

This will reduce the expense on facemasks, rapid test kits, and medical treatment, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said.

At the same time, the Prime Minister still called on the Ministry of Health to further continue monitoring the COVID-19 situation and encouraged all to apply self-sanitation, especially hand washing.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen also took the opportunity to urge those who have any COVID-19 symptoms to isolate themselves and take good care of their respective health.

As of April 18, 2023, Cambodia has recorded a total of 138,726 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with only 3,056 deaths.

Cambodian-American Taekwondo Athlete Ready for SEA Games 2023

A Cambodian-American Taekwondo Athlete Ms. Cassandre Nicole Tubbs is ready for the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.

It will be the fourth time for Ms. Tubbs to represent Cambodia in the SEA Games.

Mr. Greg Tubbs, father of. Cassandre, said that his daughter is well trained and has earned a gold medal from a recent local competition.

“She is very ready for the SEA Games, her training is very good,” said Mr. Greg Tubbs.

Ms. Cassandre Nicole Tubbs is committed to win a gold medal for Cambodia from the games.

The 24 years old athlete earned a bronze medal in 2017 in Malaysia, a silver in 2019 in Philippines, and a bronze in 2022 in Vietnam from the SEA Games.

All Free for Tickets, Accommodation and Broadcasting Rights for SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia

The Cambodian SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games Organising Committees (CAMSOC-CAMAPGOC) have pleasurably announced to provide free entry for the spectators, free accommodation and food for delegates, and free broadcasting rights for media partners.

The fee removal was made under the instruction of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

On April 18, H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, Permanent Vice Chairman of CAMSOC-CAMAPGOC sent an official letter to the president of the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the Southeast Asian Games Federation to inform him about the removal of accommodation (full board) fees for the 11 participating NOCs of the 32nd SEA Games.

“Under the wise and respectable guidance of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, CAMSOC will no longer charge any food and accommodation fees to the Participating NOCs of the 32nd SEA Games,” read the letter.

“In other words, all eleven participating NOCs will not be subjected to any pertaining to food, accommodation, and transportation costs,” it added.

However, H.E. Dr. Thong Khon underlined, all rules and regulations regarding quotas and duration of stay would remain in place.

“This decision and leadership by Samdech Prime Minister Hun Sen further affirms the Kingdom of Cambodia’s commitment to hosting our regional sports family and international guests in neighbourly environment of solidarity and friendship,” he continued.

Free tickets reservation for SEA Games 2023 will be available on App of Cambodia 2023 in the near future as well.

As of today, only 16 days left for the Kingdom of Cambodia to host the 32nd SEA Games and 45 days to go for the 12th ASEAN Para Games, under the motto of “Sports: Live in Peace”.

A total of 12,404 sport delegates have registered for the SEA Games-ASEAN Para Games 2023 in Cambodia.
