V-League Visayas Provides Platform for Provincial Collegiate Volleyball Players

Cebu City: Provincial collegiate players will get the chance to display their talents and be recognized in the inaugural V-League Visayas, which unfolds in Cebu City on July 5. Aside from celebrating school spirit and athletic excellence, the tournament is an opportunity for those aiming to play in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) and the national team.

According to Philippines News Agency, former national standout Grace Antigua expressed that the league is more than just a competition. Antigua stated, "This is a dream platform for our players - a place where they can finally be seen and, hopefully, be called up to greater opportunities." Antigua currently serves as the head coach of the men's and women's teams of University of San Carlos (USC), one of the participating schools.

The regional offshoot of the highly successful PVL has the same structure, competition level, and visibility which has elevated women's volleyball to new heights. Antigua emphasized the grassroots nature of the league, hoping it will inspire younger athletes to aspire to be part of the larger volleyball scene in the country.

USC Warriors assistant coach Harvey Bernil also highlighted the importance of the Visayas V-League. He pointed out that players now have the opportunity to be the ones being cheered, celebrated, and scouted, rather than just watching games on television.

Antigua further noted that the V-League Visayas symbolizes hope, pride, and ambition for the region's volleyball community. She shared her dream for her players to not only play in college but also to aspire to reach the national team and go professional, emphasizing that their future is possible.
