Manila: The United States government has announced PHP13.8 million in humanitarian aid to support the Philippines in responding to severe flooding caused by torrential rains over the past week.
According to Philippines News Agency, the US Embassy in Manila stated that the funding would be directed through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to bolster government-led relief and recovery efforts in the affected regions, particularly in Luzon. US Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson expressed concern over the impact of the storms and emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure that assistance reaches those in need.
The aid, provided by the US Department of State's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, aims to facilitate the transportation of food supplies to communities impacted by flooding in Metro Manila, Northern and Central Luzon, and Calabarzon. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that the death toll from the effects of the enhanced southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong has reached 25. The flooding has affected approximately 1.06 million families, totaling 3.84 million individuals.
