Seoul: South Korean Industry Minister Ahn Duk-geun met with Dutch Economic Minister Dirk Beljaarts in Seoul to discuss strategies for strengthening bilateral industrial cooperation. The meeting focused on key areas such as economic security, supply chains, and semiconductors, reflecting the importance of these sectors in the current global landscape.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the two ministers exchanged insights on global economic policy trends and assessed the current state of bilateral industrial relations. The Netherlands holds the position of South Korea's second-largest trading partner within the European Union, with bilateral trade amounting to US$14.98 billion in 2024. Furthermore, it stands as the largest EU investor in South Korea, with cumulative investments reaching $39.9 billion as of September.

Both countries have established strong connections in high-tech industries, including semiconductors and batteries. Minister Ahn expressed optimism about expanding technology cooperation through the South Korea-Netherlands joint innovation committee. He emphasized the potential for deeper collaboration in these cutting-edge sectors.

Additionally, Minister Ahn highlighted the critical need for continued cooperation between the two governments on export controls and supply chain security. Both parties recognized the growing importance of economic security in light of increasing global trade uncertainties.
