Rome: Philippine Ambassador to the Holy See Myla Grace Macahilig encouraged Filipino runners to give their best when they join the prestigious Run Rome the Marathon here on March 16.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ambassador Macahilig expressed her support for the Filipino participants, highlighting their dedication and the significance of their participation. She acknowledged the runners’ strong commitment to the sport and emphasized the broader impact of their involvement, noting that they carry the hopes and dreams of their community, family, and the Filipino people.

More than 30,000 runners, including Filipinos, many of whom are based in Italy, are expected to participate in the 30th edition of the Rome Marathon. This event, which coincides with the 2025 Jubilee Year, will see the streets of the Eternal City filled with athletes from various backgrounds.

Ambassador Macahilig also reminded the participants of their role as representatives of the Philippines. She wished them well, encouraging them to run safely and with pride, symbolically carrying the Philippine flag with them during the marathon.

In addition to the 42.195-kilometer marathon, participants can also compete in the Run4Rome relay and a 5K fun run, where trophies are up for grabs.

A thanksgiving Mass was held to honor the Filipino runners, attended by Philippine Embassy in Rome Cultural Officer Naive Mamhot and other embassy staff. The Mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Vhen Fernandez, Rev. Fr. Ronan Ayag CS, and Rev. Fr. Edward Caringal. Several community groups, including the Pedro Calungsod Community, Pilipino Runners Roma, Piney Teens Salinlahi PURI ASD (Roma), and Philippine Independence Day Association, showed their support for the runners.

The Filipino participants have been preparing for the Rome Marathon 2025 for the past four months, showcasing their dedication and readiness for the international stage.
