Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed his intention to strengthen diplomatic ties with Slovenia and Palestine to advance peace and uphold a rules-based international order. The announcement was made during the presentation of credentials by Slovenian Ambassador-designate Smiljana Knez and Palestinian Ambassador-designate Mounir Y.K. Anastas in separate ceremonies at the Malaca±an Palace.

According to Philippines News Agency, Ambassador Knez highlighted Slovenia’s commitment to international law and a rules-based order, aligning with Filipino values. President Marcos acknowledged these shared principles as a solid foundation for enhancing bilateral relations. Knez pledged to fortify cooperation between the two nations in multiple sectors, including cultural and scientific exchanges. Slovenia plans to establish an embassy in Manila to further strengthen these ties, following the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Philippines in 1993. Slovenia currently hosts 462 Filipinos, primarily working in professional, service, and technical roles.

Ambassador Anastas emphasized Palestine’s dedication to maintaining a partnership with Manila, envisioning a future characterized by peace, mutual understanding, and prosperity. He urged continued collaboration in pursuit of justice and equality. President Marcos echoed this sentiment, reaffirming both nations’ shared values in promoting peace and human rights. The Philippines and Palestine formalized diplomatic relations in 1989, reflecting a longstanding commitment to international solidarity.
