Dumaguete: The local government of this city on Wednesday formally turned over to the Department of Education (DepEd) a brand-new school building for the North City Elementary School. Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo spearheaded the inauguration rites attended by DepEd officials led by Schools Division Superintendent Edmark Cabio. The new building comprises two stories with eight classrooms.
According to Philippines News Agency, the funding allocation for the new school building is taken from the city's surplus budget of more than PHP80 million. Mayor Remollo emphasized the importance of supporting better education for students. In his last term, he expressed hope that the next administration would continue efforts in the academic and education sector.
Cabio thanked the city government for allocating more than PHP60 million to construct additional school buildings, addressing the lack of classrooms for elementary and high school learners. He noted the challenge of accommodating more learners and expressed gratitude for the city's assistance. This is the first school building to be inaugurated, with about five others under construction. The projects are funded by the city government through its Special Education Fund.
