Department of Agriculture Allocates PHP202 Million for Bicol Farmers Affected by Tropical Storm Enteng

BICOL — The Department of Agriculture (DA) in Bicol has allocated PHP202 million in buffer stocks to aid 13,623 farmers who have been impacted by the recent Tropical Storm Enteng. This intervention aims to mitigate the substantial agricultural losses incurred across the region, which are currently estimated at PHP350.85 million.

According to Philippines News Agency, the DA-Bicol spokesperson, the relief package includes hybrid rice, corn, and assorted vegetable seeds, which are poised for distribution to the affected farmers across various provinces. In addition to material support, farmers are encouraged to report their losses to municipal agricultural offices and seek further aid through the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) to process their crop insurance claims.

The storm has resulted in extensive damage to agriculture in Bicol, affecting 8,893 hectares of land, including vital crops such as rice, corn, and high-value vegetables. Despite the severe impact, approximately 5,797 hectares still have a potential for recovery. The damage includes about 739 metric tons of corn and 13,887 metric tons of rice, alongside significant losses in high-value crops like eggplant, squash, and tomatoes, amounting to 188 metric tons.

Guarin emphasized that the DA continues to evaluate the full extent of damage and loss caused by 'Enteng' to ensure all affected areas and farmers receive the necessary support during this critical recovery phase.
