Manila, Philippines—The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced its intent to file obstruction of justice charges against those who assisted Apollo Quiboloy, the founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC), in evading arrest amid serious allegations including child sexual abuse and human trafficking.
According to the Philippines News Agency, PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil stated on Sunday that a comprehensive investigation is underway to identify and hold accountable those who provided refuge to Quiboloy. "We will not tolerate any form of obstruction to justice. Our investigation aims to identify those who knowingly provided refuge to Quiboloy and we will ensure they face appropriate legal consequences," Marbil asserted.
Quiboloy surrendered on September 8 inside the KOJC compound in Davao City following a 24-hour ultimatum issued by the police. The PNP had conducted a 16-day operation to locate and apprehend him. Marbil emphasized that Quiboloy’s ability to evade arrest for such an extended period was aided by close associates, including legal representatives who allegedly misled authorities about his whereabouts.
Marbil further stressed that obstruction of justice is a grave offense and affirmed that legal actions are imminent for those involved in harboring Quiboloy. "Obstruction of justice is a serious offense and those who aided in shielding Quiboloy from law enforcement will be charged accordingly. The law is clear: No one is above it and those who helped Quiboloy will be held accountable," he said.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, led by Maj. Gen. Leo Francisco, has been tasked with leading the case buildup. This announcement follows earlier warnings by Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos about the consequences for those found harboring Quiboloy.
