Seoul: Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD Co. has officially joined the Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA), marking a significant step in its efforts to expand its footprint in Asia's fourth-largest economy.
According to Yonhap News Agency, BYD entered the Korean market in 2016, initially focusing on commercial vehicles, including forklifts, electric buses, and trucks. This year, the company expanded its offerings to include passenger vehicles, beginning with the launch of the BYD Atto 3 compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) in January. KAIDA announced that two additional models, the midsized BYD Seal sedan and the midsized BYD Sealion 7 SUV, are planned for release later this year.
KAIDA, which comprises 22 imported car makers operating under 29 different brands, confirmed the inclusion of BYD in its ranks. The association also includes four commercial vehicle makers representing four separate brands, highlighting the diversity of its membership.
