Bridge Collapse at Seoul-Sejong Expressway Site Claims Three Lives, Injures Six


Anseong: A catastrophic bridge collapse at an expressway construction site in Anseong has resulted in the deaths of three workers and injuries to six others, with rescue efforts ongoing for one individual still trapped. The incident took place at approximately 9:50 a.m. on a section of the Seoul-Sejong expressway, located about 65 kilometers south of Seoul.



According to Yonhap News Agency, several slabs on a pier unexpectedly fell to the ground, trapping 10 workers beneath the structure. Out of these, three workers succumbed to their injuries, while six others sustained serious injuries. Rescue workers are continuing efforts to extract the remaining individual from the debris.



Initial reports from fire authorities indicated two fatalities; however, one of the injured workers was later declared dead at the hospital. Hyundai Engineering, the construction firm responsible for the site, stated that all related employees are currently engaged in recovery efforts and are working to verify the number of workers employed by subcontractors involved in the project.



The National Fire Agency has mobilized firefighters to intensify the search for any individuals still missing following the accident. In response to the incident, Acting President Choi Sang-mok has issued emergency directives to allocate all available resources and personnel to the rescue operation.
