Asusano Achieves Fourth Place in Paralympic Javelin, Sets Personal Best

Cendy Asusano set a personal record at the Paris Paralympic Games, finishing fourth in the women's javelin throw F54, according to the media pool report. The Philippine athlete threw a personal best of 15.05 meters at the Stade de France, improving her previous best of 14.63 meters. Asusano's achievement came as the Philippine team concluded their participation with four athletes reaching finals, though no medals were secured.

According to Philippines News Agency, Asusano, participating in her first Paralympics, expressed pride in her performance. "My target was to surpass my personal best. I am proud of what I did," she stated. Her performance maintained her No. 4 ranking in the para world rankings. The event was won by Uzbekistan's world champion Nurkhon Kurbanova with a new world record throw of 21.12 meters. Nigerian Flora Ugwunwa and Iranian Elham Salehi secured the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Other members of the Philippine team also put up noteworthy performances. Swimmer Angel Mae Otom reached the finals in two events, while wheelchair racer Jerrold Mangliwan and archer Agustina Bantiloc participated in their respective finals. Despite not advancing in some events, their efforts highlighted the team's resilience and commitment to the Paralympic movement. Team Philippines' chef de mission, Ral Rosario, emphasized the significance of the athletes' finals appearances and the broader goals of sustainability promoted by the local organizing committee.
