Army Chief Lauds Troops’ Discipline, Sacrifice to Secure Basilan

Isabela City: Philippine Army (PA) chief, Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, praised the 101st “Three Red Arrows” Infantry Brigade stationed in Basilan for their efforts in maintaining peace and progress in the province. During a visit to the brigade’s headquarters at Camp Luis Biel II, Barangay Tabiawan, Galido acknowledged the soldiers’ commitment to ensuring the security of the local population.

According to Philippines News Agency, Col. Louie Dema-ala, PA spokesperson, reported that Galido emphasized the importance of the troops’ discipline, dedication, and sacrifice. The army chief also commended the 101st Infantry Brigade, under the leadership of Brig. Gen. Alvin Luzon, for their involvement in community engagements and their support for the Bangsamoro peace process, which is currently in its normalization phase.

Dema-ala highlighted that Lt. Gen. Galido discussed maintaining high morale and welfare among the troops, focusing on the leadership and empowerment of non-commissioned officers. Galido also mentioned the distribution of new uniforms and updates on additional subsistence allowances for the soldiers.

Addressing the troops, Galido remarked on the hazardous nature of their work, stating, “Our work is extremely hazardous and high risk – that’s why our compensation is significant. But that should never lead to complacency. In this line of duty, a single mistake, one wrong assessment, could mean everything. The question is: is your family ready for that?”
