SIX PERSONS ARRESTED FOR UNLAWFUL ASSEMBLY AND VOLUNTARILY CAUSING GRIEVOUS HURT BY DANGEROUS WEAPON WITHIN SIX HOURS

The Police have arrested six persons, aged between 15 and 16, for their suspected involvement in a case of unlawful assembly and voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon.

On 10 November 2021 at 6.30pm, the Police were alerted to a case where a male victim was allegedly attacked by a person within a group using a knife along Northshore Drive. The attack purportedly arose from a heated argument between the victim and the person within the group. The victim suffered lacerations to his neck and was conscious when conveyed to the hospital. The group had fled the scene prior to Police’s arrival.

Through follow-up investigations, and with the aid of images from Police cameras and information provided by members of the public, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identities of the persons involved and arrested them within six hours of the reported crime.

Of the six persons arrested, a 16-year-old male subject will be charged in court on 12 November 2021 with voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon under Section 326 of the Penal Code. Five other persons, who were believed to be present when the incident happened, were also arrested for unlawful assembly under Section 143 of the Penal Code. Police investigations are ongoing.

The offence of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon under Section 326 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term which may extend to 15 years, or a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments. The offence of being a member of an unlawful assembly under Section 143 of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment term which may extend to two years, a fine, or both.

The Police have zero tolerance towards such brazen acts of violence and blatant disregard of the law. We will spare no effort to apprehend such offenders and deal with them in accordance with the law.
