Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted 42 search, rescue, and retrieval operations nationwide, successfully rescuing 6,610 individuals amid the challenges posed by the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Mirasol, Nando, and Opong.

According to Philippines News Agency, approximately 7,000 police personnel were deployed to facilitate disaster response efforts, which included restoring vital lifelines such as roads, electricity, and communication systems. Additionally, another 11,000 members of the Reserve Support Service Force were placed on standby, equipped with maritime and air assets to access isolated communities.

PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. commended the police frontliners for their efforts in ensuring public safety, emphasizing the ongoing nature of their mission. "But the task is not yet over. Our personnel will remain in the frontline to assist our kababayan (fellow Filipinos) and rebuild their communities," he stated in a press release over the weekend.

The PNP's operations also included 27 relief missions that provided aid to nearly 2,000 individuals. Security and peacekeeping measures were implemented in 32,265 evacuation centers that are currently accommodating almost 600,000 displaced residents. Additional efforts by police units involved road clearing, medical aid, evacuation assistance, and managing the orderly distribution of relief supplies.

To maintain the momentum of their operations, the PNP has strategically prepositioned reserve forces, fuel, food, and medical supplies, while ensuring the rotation of deployed personnel to prevent fatigue. Meanwhile, Nartatez reported that 35 officers were affected by the recent weather conditions, and damage was sustained at the Mimaropa regional headquarters and two Eastern Visayas police stations.
