LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The Banaan Pangasinan Provincial Museum is showcasing the culture of at least 11 indigenous peoples (IP) communities in its first anniversary celebration, focusing on the deep connection between these communities and Pangasinan. The exhibit, titled “Interwoven Roots, Shared Heritage,” features intricate woven textiles, photographs, and other artifacts representing the Ibaloi, Kankanaey, Kalanguya, Iwak, Bago, Kalinga, Bontoc, Itneg, Applai, Aberling, and Ifugao tribes. The exhibit, which runs until October, is part of the museum’s anniversary program, “Pamagalang.”
According to Philippines News Agency, the exhibit is a collaboration between the museum and the NCIP, aimed at educating younger generations about Pangasinan’s cultural ties with these IP communities. Maria Luisa Amor-Elduayan, head of the Provincial Tourism, Culture, and Arts Office (PTCAO), noted that 12,000 visitors have come to the museum, housed in the historic Casa Real in Lingayen, since its opening last year.
Pangasinan Governor Ramon Guico III emphasized the importance of museums in fostering national identity, patriotism, and an appreciation for the arts. The museum also launched the KASAMAT Patronage Card program, offering benefits to cardholders while encouraging more visits.
The anniversary celebration includes free guided tours on specific dates and the Gawad F. Sionil Jose Literary Writing Contest, honoring the late National Artist for Literature.
