BACOLOD CITY – Police authorities seized 1 kilogram of shabu valued at PHP6.8 million from a suspect during an operation in Murcia town, Negros Occidental, after an accident involving a motorcycle on Saturday night. The suspect, a 29-year-old resident of Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, was arrested following the discovery of illegal drugs at the scene.

According to Philippines News Agency, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. when the suspect, identified only as 'John,' collided with a car in Barangay Salvacion, prompting law enforcement to respond. Upon their arrival, officers observed the suspect exhibiting suspicious behavior, leading them to discover a transparent plastic pack containing shabu near the bumper of the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed an additional pack of the illegal substance inside the suspect's sling bag.

Each pack contained 500 grams of shabu, valued at PHP6,800 per gram. Murcia Municipal Police Station Chief Maj. Sherwin Fernandez, in an interview, stated that the suspect had obtained the drugs from San Carlos City and was reportedly acting as a drug courier.

Fernandez added that while the suspect had no previous record of drug-related offenses, authorities are conducting further investigations in collaboration with other police units. Charges for possession of illegal drugs and reckless imprudence resulting in property damage are being prepared against the suspect.
