Malign Neglect in Myanmar

Nearly six months after military Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing and his junta overthrew Myanmar’s elected government, the third wave of COVID-19, including the highly contagious Delta variant, is ravaging the strife-torn country of 54 million people. With 296 of 330 townships in the nation reporting COVID-19 cases since May, the military has been slammed for mismanagement and malign neglect and accused of weaponizing the virus as it crushes opposition to its rule.
