Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone held a bilateral meeting with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese in Jakarta, Indonesia on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, scheduled for September 5-7.
Both PMs highly valued the longstanding friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries over the past 71 years which have been strengthened with regular exchange of official visits by leaders of the two countries.
Both sides pledged to continue to further cooperation over years to come. They expressed satisfaction that the two countries will upgrade their friendship to "Comprehensive Partnership" in the near future, and promote trade and investment between the two countries.
PM Sonexay Siphandone expressed heartfelt gratitude to the government and people of Australia for providing assistance and support to the Lao PDR, especially in support of Laos’ resumption of ASEAN chair in 2024.
The two leaders also highly valued their cooperation within the framework of ASEAN-Australia cooperation 2021-2024 where the Lao PDR is serving as ASEAN-Australia coordinating country.
