Iloilo Governor Seeks DPWH Action on Unfinished Aganan Flyover

Iloilo: Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. is optimistic that Public Works and Highways Secretary Vivencio Dizon will take positive action on his request regarding the status of the unfinished flyover in the municipality of Pavia. In a media interview on Monday, Defensor said he wrote a letter to Dizon last week, one of the many follow-ups his office has been doing for the project in the past months.

According to Philippines News Agency, Defensor's letter dated September 29, 2025, requested a "comprehensive update and clarification" about the current status of the Aganan flyover. He expressed concerns about the prolonged delay, which has significantly disrupted traffic flow in the area and continues to affect the daily lives and convenience of residents.

The project, initiated in July 2020, was originally slated for completion within 24 months but remains unfinished. Defensor highlighted issues with the original contractor, United Technology Consolidated Partnership, which allegedly made discrepancies in assessing the foundation depth, reportedly disapproved by the DPWH central office. He noted that additional funds ranging from PHP275 million to PHP300 million might be required due to necessary design revisions and rectifications.

Defensor emphasized his trust in Secretary Dizon's leadership, urging the DPWH to prioritize transparency, accountability, and swift action to complete the Aganan Flyover. He also mentioned that the flyover is not the only concern of the provincial government, citing other projects like the government center.
