Manila—ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo and singer-lawyer Jimmy Bondoc have formalized their candidacies for the 2025 senatorial elections, highlighting the latest developments in the Philippine political arena.
According to Philippines News Agency, Erwin Tulfo, joining his brothers Ben and incumbent Senator Raffy Tulfo, filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Sunday at The Manila Hotel Tent City. Running under the banner of the administration slate Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, and recently joining the ruling party Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, Tulfo emphasized the absence of a law on political dynasties, suggesting that the decision should rest with the voters. “As long as there is no law yet, then we let the people decide,” Tulfo stated, indicating a reliance on public choice in the absence of legislative restrictions on political family dynasties.
On the same note, Jimmy Bondoc, known for his dual career as a singer and lawyer, also declared his senatorial bid under the PDP-Laban party, alongside other independent candidates Junbert Guigayuma, Wilson Amad, and Sixto Lagare.
Further political activity was noted with the filing of certificates of nomination and acceptance of nomination (CON-CAN) by various parties, including former Commission on Elections commissioner Rowena Guanzon, now representing the P3PWD party-list. The day also saw filings from other party-list groups such as Pinoy Workers, Abante Pangasinan Ilocano, Unyon ng mga Gabay ng Bayan, Epanaw Sambayanan, Katipunan ng Kamalayang Kayumanggi, and 1-Ang Edukasyon.
The window for COC and CON-CAN submissions remains open until October 8, as parties and candidates line up to secure their places in the upcoming electoral process.
