Cattle Exhibition And Competition Held In Yangon

YANGON– Myanmar’s Yangon Region government, organised a cattle exhibition and competition here yesterday, to boost its livestock production.

 

A total of 119 cows and 76 goats were competing in the two-day weekend event, in Yangon’s Mingaladon township, according to the Yangon Region Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department.

 

Livestock feeds, livestock medicines and livestock products were also showcased and sold at about 15 stalls and shops during the exhibition.

 

“The event aims to boost livestock production, especially cow breeding. It also aims to conserve indigenous cattle breeds,” Toe Min Tun, head of the Yangon Region Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department, said.

 

Another aim of the exhibition is to encourage commercial beef cattle breeding, to earn more income from the industry by exporting the cattle, he said.

 

From Apr to Dec, Myanmar earned 18.658 million U.S. dollars from the exports of animal products, including cattle, according to the country’s Ministry of Commerce.
