Sibunag: The two-day search and retrieval operations for two missing Guimaras fishermen ended with the recovery of their bodies off the waters of Sibunag municipality on Wednesday. The search and rescue team of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Guimaras first recovered the body of Vincent Paul Valles, 30, between the Inampulugan and Natunga Islands around 7:43 a.m., followed by the recovery of the body of Ryan Galfo, 32, just near the same area at 11 a.m., the provincial government said in a report on Wednesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, the report from the municipal DRRMO of Sibunag stated that the victims set out together with two other fishermen on board a fishing boat named 'Jen-Jen and Rowen' last Monday. Due to rough sea conditions, Galfo and Valles were swept away by strong currents while attempting to retrieve a fishing buoy.
A rescue operation was launched on the evening of the same day with the help of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) sub-station Sibunag and the Sibunag Municipal Police Station. The provincial government, upon the directive of Governor Ma. Lucille Nava, said it immediately delivered relief goods and essential supplies as initial aid to the bereaved families in Sitio Liningwan, Maabay, Sibunag.
