Wisma Putra has successfully published a Foreign Policy Framework titled ‘Focus in Continuity: A Framework for Malaysia’s Foreign Policy in a Post-Pandemic World’.
As a response to the ever-changing global developments and realities, including those arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, this Framework serves as a manifestation to further enhance existing foreign policy implementation under the Keluarga Malaysia administration for the betterment of the rakyat.
This Framework was formulated through extensive cooperation and collaboration involving the participation of Ministries / Government Agencies, members of the Consultative Council on Foreign Policy, Members of Parliament as well as members of the academia, entrepreneurs and corporate representatives, and civil society organisations.
Consistent with the overarching theme of ‘Focus in Continuity’, the implementation of this Framework encompasses the following two (2) pillars:
- current realities and challenges that require the Government’s immediate actions, especially those brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic; and
- Malaysia’s medium- and long-term foreign policy direction.
However, this Framework is not a new foreign policy as it will continue to uphold the long-standing fundamental tenets of Malaysia’s foreign policy. Instead, it will embody a reinvigorated approach and focus on immediate priority areas taking into account important developments both at home and abroad, especially within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The eight (8) priority areas are outlined as follows:
- Revitalise Malaysia’s Links to the Global Economy;
- Health Diplomacy;
iii. Digital Economy;
- Cybersecurity;
- Cultural Diplomacy;
- Peaceful Coexistence;
vii. Upholding Multilateralism; and
viii. Sustainable Development Goals 2030 – SDGs.
