Manila: The Philippine National Police (PNP) has sanctioned 269 erring police officers and filed 239 cybercrime-related complaints in September. In a statement, PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. detailed the disciplinary actions taken against the officers, which included 92 dismissals, 18 demotions, 117 suspensions, two forfeitures of salary, 27 reprimands, eight restrictions, and five instances of withholding privileges.
According to Philippines News Agency, Nartatez emphasized the PNP's zero-tolerance policy towards violations among police personnel, stating that these measures highlight their commitment to uphold accountability and restore public trust in the organization. PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tua±o reiterated their dedication to maintaining high standards of integrity and assured the public of the PNP's continued efforts to cleanse the force of unprofessional conduct.
In addition to internal disciplinary actions, the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) made significant strides in combating cybercrime, with 239 cases filed nationwide. Of these, 167 were through regular filing and 72 via inquest proceedings, aligning with the directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to bolster the government's campaign against cybercrimes and protect citizens in the digital realm.
The ACG executed 118 cyber warrants and arrested 110 suspects, including 77 in entrapment operations, 31 individuals on wanted lists, and two apprehended by the Women and Children Cybercrime Protection Unit. Furthermore, the ACG conducted 131 digital forensic examinations, contributing to 25 convictions. Efforts also led to the rescue of six minors from online abuse and the custody of two children in conflict with the law.
