UOB Malaysia Introduces Digital Account Opening On UOB Mighty, Reduces Onboarding Time By 60 Per Cent

KUALA LUMPUR, UOB Malaysia today announced the launch of a digital account opening service that enable customers to open a personal bank account anytime, anywhere via the Bank’s all-in-one mobile banking app, UOB Mighty. This is part of the Bank’s continuous efforts to harness technology to make banking simpler and safer for its customers. Through the app, customers can now embark on their financial journey with the Bank in just 10 minutes, reducing the average time it typically takes to open an account in person by up to 60 per cent.

Viet Nam, Flooding in Muong Lat District, Thanh Hoa (TC Cempaka) (24 Jul 2021)

DESCRIPTION

On the morning of July 24, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Muong Lat district (Thanh Hoa province) Hoang Van Dung said that in the past two days in the district, there was heavy rain due to the influence of the weakening tropical depression from Typhoon Cempaka. Assessing the complicated flood situation, the district government evacuated 305 households with about 1,400 people to a safe place.

Accordingly, the communes of Muong Lat that had to be evacuated included: Muong Ly, Trung Ly, Pu Nhi, Muong Chanh and Tam Chung.

Flooding caused some damage in Muong Lat. On the afternoon of July 23, floods poured into Sim stream, passing through Quang Chieu commune, swept away the temporary bridge from Pung village to three hamlets, Suoi Tut and Con Dao villages, making it difficult for nearly 180 households to travel. The government has sent people to guard, not allowing people and vehicles to pass.

ASEAN Weekly Disaster Update Week 29, 19 – 25 July 2021

REGIONAL SUMMARY:

For the twenty-ninth (29th) week of 2021, a total of 14 disasters (5 floods, 3 landslide, 2 storms, and 4 wind-related) affected the region. Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam have reportedly been affected. Tropical Cyclone (TC) IN-FA enhanced the Southwest Monsoon and affected 8 regions in the Philippines as reported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). Heavy rainfall that caused the overflowing of Jembo River resulted in flooding in Cilacap and strong winds affected North Sumatra in Indonesia as reported by Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana (BNPB). The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) of Thailand reported winds and storms to have affected Trat, and TC CEMPAKA to have affected 6 provinces. Lastly, the Viet Nam Disaster Management Authority (VNDMA) reported that TC CEMPAKA caused flooding in Thanh Hoa.

HIGHLIGHT:

For the past week, according to the NDRRMC, TC FABIAN enhanced the Southwest Monsoon that resulted in a lightning incident, impassable roads, landslides, fallen trees, floods, maritime incident, rockslide, sinkhole, storm surges, and rock-mudflow across 480 barangays in Region 1, 2, 3, 6, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, CAR, and NCR of the Philippines. The mentioned events in total has affected 50.7K families (202.2K people), displaced 72.2K people into 365 evacuation centres and to friends’ and relatives’ homes, caused damages to 572 houses (447 partially, 143 totally), injured 2 people, and claimed the life an individual. A total of 2.08M USD worth of damages to agriculture and infrastructure were reported. Financial assistance and family food packs worth 57.7K USD were also distributed to the affected victims.

HYDRO-METEO-CLIMATOLOGICAL:

For the past week, data from the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) showed high 7-day average rainfall East and Northeast of the Philippines associated to TC IN-FA, and in Luzon island of the Philippines as a result of the enhanced Southwest Monsoon by TC IN-FA. As of reporting, there are tropical cyclone advisories by JTWC for TS IN-FA impacting China and TS NEPARTAK that is forecast to impact Japan.

GEOPHYSICAL:

Seven (7) significant earthquakes (M=5.0) were recorded in the region by Indonesia’s Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG) and the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). Merapi and Sinabung in Indonesia (Alert Level III) and Taal Volcano in the Philippines (Alert level 3) reported recent volcanic activity and are under close monitoring. Volcanic activity was also reported for Mount Sirung, Semeru, and Dukono in Indonesia according to PVMBG and PHIVOLCS.

OUTLOOK:

According to the ASMC, for the coming week, drier conditions are expected over much of the Northern ASEAN region and warmer temperatures over much of the ASEAN region. For the regional assessment of extremes there is a small increase in chance for a very heavy rainfall event to occur in Northwestern Myanmar and Southern Maluku Islands of Indonesia; for extended dry conditions, a moderate increase in chance for parts of the Philippines and a small increase in chance for eastern Thailand, and Central Viet Nam; for extreme hot conditions, a moderate increase in chance for much of the Maritime Continent and a small increase in chance for eastern and southern part of Mainland Southeast Asia.

At 4:00 AM, “FABIAN” slightly intensified and was nearing Severe Tropical Storm category with maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 105 km/h, and central pressure of 992 hPa moving North Northwestward at 10 km/h.

At 10:00 AM, it intensified into a Severe Tropical Storm with maximum sustained winds of 95 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 115 km/h, and central pressure of 985 hPa moving northwestward at 15 km/h.

At 10:00 AM, STS “FABIAN” slightly intensified while moving west northwestward at 10 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 100 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 125 km/h, and central pressure of 980 hPa.

At 2:00 PM, “FABIAN” intensified into a Typhoon.

At 4:00 PM, the center of the eye of the Typhoon “FABIAN” was estimated based on all available data at 895 km East Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 150 km/h, and central pressure of 975 hPa moving west northwestward at 15 km/h.

At 4:00 AM, the center of the eye was estimated based on all available data at 740 km East Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 160 km/h, and central pressure of 970 hPa.

At 4:00 PM, it maintained its strength as it continues to move westward. The center of the eye of Typhoon “FABIAN” was located based on all available data at 655 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes with maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 185 km/h, and central pressure of 960 hPa moving Westward at 10 km/h.

At 10:00 PM, it turned southwestward over the Philippine sea near Miyako Islands and center was estimated at 575 km

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 prevailed in Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

Typhoon “FABIAN” maintained its strength as it moved west southwestward over the sea southeast of Miyako Islands.

At 4:00 AM, the center was estimated at 530 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes moving west southwestward at 10 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 185 km/h, and central pressure of 955 hPa.

At 4:00 PM, TY “FABIAN” continues to move slowly westward over the Philippine sea southeast of Yaeyama Islands.

At 10:00 PM, the center of the eye of TY “FABIAN” was estimated based on all available data at 515 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes moving northwestward slowly while maintaining its strength.

Typhoon “FABIAN” remains slow-moving over the sea south of Miyako Islands.

At 4:00 AM, the center of the eye was estimated based on all available data at 510 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

At 10:00 AM, the center of the eye of Typhoon “FABIAN” was estimated based on all available data at 530 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes (24.4°N, 125.2°E).

At 4:00 PM, Typhoon “FABIAN” is now moving over Miyako islands while maintaining its strength.

At 11:00 PM, The center of the eye of Typhoon “FABIAN” was estimated based on all available data at 560 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes (24.9°N, 125.0°E).

PH CONSUL GENERAL TO MACAU PAYS COURTESY CALL ON CHINESE FOREIGN AFFAIRS COMMISSIONER IN MACAU

MACAU 26 July 2021 – Philippine Consul General in Macau Special Administrative Region Porfirio M. Mayo, Jr. paid a courtesy call on Commissioner Liu Xianfa, Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Macau Special Administrative Region on 23 July 2021 at the Office of the Commissioner.

During his call, Consul General Mayo affirmed the friendly relations between the Philippines and China and renewed the Consulate’s commitment to work closely with China and the Government of Macau SAR in the enhancement of economic cooperation, trade, investments, and people-to-people exchanges.

In their discussions, Consul General Mayo highlighted the contributions that Filipinos in Macau have made to the economic progress and cultural vibrancy of Macau and expressed hope that this will continue in the years ahead.

Consul General Mayo also emphasized that the protection of the rights and the promotion of the welfare of Filipinos living and working in Macau will be one of the central priorities of his tenure. He informed Commissioner Liu that the Consulate intends to actively engage Macau authorities on labor concerns. He expressed the hope that this cooperation will eventually result in the conclusion of a bilateral labor agreement between the Philippines and Macau.

Both officials also committed to work closely with each other on other matters of mutual concern.
