MANILA—The Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality cited former mayor Alice Guo in contempt on Monday for providing what they deemed 'false and evasive' testimonies during a recent panel discussion.

According to the Philippines News Agency, Deputy Minority Leader and committee chair Senator Risa Hontiveros initiated the motion after discrepancies arose regarding Guo's identity, where she insisted that she and Guo Hua Ping were not the same person, contradicting evidence provided by the National Bureau of Investigation. The NBI confirmed Guo as Guo Hua Ping, a Chinese national who entered the Philippines in 2003, leading Hontiveros to state, "That means she blatantly lied before us in the Senate. That means she faced the people of Bamban and blatantly lied."

The session also highlighted Guo's previous legal manipulations, including filing a late registration of live birth to obtain a Philippine passport, which the Philippine Statistics Authority has since declared irregular. Further complicating her case, the Bureau of Immigration revealed no Philippine stamps in Guo's passport, indicating she and her alleged sister left the country illegally without regular immigration checks.

Throughout the hearing, Guo was evasive about other critical details, including the identities of individuals allegedly threatening her life, which she declined to disclose to the committee. Senators also expressed skepticism regarding her claim that no Filipinos assisted her escape from the country, a claim she attributed to the help of an unnamed Asian female foreigner.

This session marks the second time the committee has cited Guo in contempt, following her repeated absences at hearings concerning illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators. Despite the contempt citation, Guo will remain under the custody of the Philippine National Police, pending her posting bail for a graft case. If she posts bail, she will be transferred to the Senate's custody.

The complex case continues to unfold as the Senate probes deeper into the layers of Guo's legal and personal entanglements within the Philippines and abroad.
