Pasay City - San Beda University launched its championship defense with a convincing 79-63 win against Lyceum of the Philippines University in the opening game of the NCAA Season 100, held at the Mall of Asia Arena.

According to Philippines News Agency, San Beda’s strategy was well-executed on the court, leading to their dominant performance. Rookie Bryan Sajonia starred with a game-high 18 points and five rebounds, playing a critical role in the victory. The Lions, who secured their 23rd title last December, showcased their determination to pursue back-to-back championships. San Beda’s coach, Yuri Escueta, praised Sajonia’s defensive skills, which were pivotal in neutralizing the shooters from Lyceum.

The game saw San Beda maintain control throughout, with a significant push before halftime that widened their lead. Yukien Andrada, the team captain, contributed significantly with 13 points, including three important three-pointers. Despite a brief rally by Lyceum to close the gap to four points in the second period, they could not sustain the momentum against the disciplined San Beda squad.

The event also attracted notable figures, including Education Secretary Sonny Angara and national team player CJ Perez, highlighting the game's significance in the local sports community.
