Ragay: The Philippine National Railways (PNR) has successfully completed the repair of the Binahan Bridge in Ragay, Camarines Sur, facilitating the expansion of rail operations to Quezon province. PNR General Manager Deovanni Miranda emphasized that the restoration of the bridge is a testament to the PNR’s dedication to fulfilling President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to accelerate the rehabilitation of South Operations.
According to Philippines News Agency, Miranda expressed his gratitude to the PNR team for their relentless efforts in restoring the Binahan Bridge. He reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to revitalizing existing PNR lines from Quezon to Camarines Sur, aiming to provide safe, reliable, and affordable mass transportation for Filipinos.
The 99-kilometer rail line from Naga to Tagkawayan is designed to meet the commuting needs of residents in the Southern Tagalog and Bicol regions more effectively. The repair work, conducted between April and June, not only enhanced the bridge’s durability but also saw the replacement of traditional wooden ties with synthetic alternatives.
Miranda announced plans for a trial run as part of the preparation for the Naga to Ragay operation, set to commence in the last quarter of 2025. An assessment by PNR’s engineering team is underway to ensure the safety and reliability of the tracks, further supporting the expansion of rail services in the region.
