PH SUPPORTS CROSS-BORDER E-COMMERCE PROJECT AT FEALAC STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING

PASAY CITY – The Philippines along with donor countries, including representatives from the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), attended the Ad-hoc Meeting of the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) Trust Fund Steering Committee held via video conference on 16 March 2022.

During the meeting, ECLAC and ESCAP presented the outcomes of past regional projects namely, the “Value Chain Development for Deeper Integration of East Asia and Latin America” and “Reducing Inequality in FEALAC Member Countries – Innovative Policymaking that leaves no one behind”, respectively. The Steering Committee also exchanged views on a new regional project proposal on leveraging cross-border e-commerce towards an inclusive and sustainable pandemic response in both East Asia and Latin American regions.

“We find these projects to be important in strengthening the data and capacity of FEALAC Member States in developing evidence-based industrial and trade policies, as well as providing useful tools for economic planning and analysis,” said DFA Assistant Secretary for American Affairs Jose Victor V. Chan-Gonzaga.
