PCG Suspends Sea Travel in Northern Samar Due to Northeast Monsoon

Northern Samar: The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has suspended sea travel in some parts of Northern Samar due to the expected effect of the northeast monsoon. In a notice to mariners issued Thursday, the PCG station in Northern Samar stated that all sea vessels plying the route within the northeastern portions of the northern and eastern coasts of Northern Samar province are prohibited from leaving ports.

According to Philippines News Agency, the towns affected by this suspension include Biri, Rosario, San Jose, Bobon, Catarman, Mondragon, San Roque, Pambujan, Laoang, Palapag, Mapanas, Gamay, Lavezares, and Lapinig, all in the Samar provinces. The suspension primarily affects travels to island communities in the northeastern part of the province.

The PCG specified that all vessels and watercraft of 250 gross tonnage and below, operating within the northern and eastern coasts of Northern Samar, are temporarily suspended. Additionally, vessels and watercraft with 35 gross tonnage and below within the province are also advised against venturing out into the sea. Larger vessels are cautioned to be alert to big waves.

Mariners of small sea vessels are advised to remain in port or seek safe harbor for larger vessels. Operating in these conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels.
