Ministry of Foreign Affairs organises brainstorming session with civil society and government agencies to move forward the Sustainable Development Goals

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs organises brainstorming session with multi-stakeholders, forging partnerships with all sectors in advancing the SDGs.

On 29 November 2021, Ms. Ek-on Khunacharoen, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, chaired a virtual meeting of the Open-ended Working Group of Civil Society and Government Agencies for achieving the SDGs (OEWG for SDGs). Approximately 100 people from the government sector, civil society, academia, and international organisations participated in the meeting. With only nine years left to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), strong partnership among all sectors is critical, and will enable Thailand to build back better from the COVID-19 crisis.

The meeting discussed Thailand’s presentation of the second Voluntary National Review (VNR) in July 2021, other SDGs related meetings, National Economic and Social Development Council’s SDGs five years report and Thailand’s strategic plan to move SDGs forward with BCG Economic Model.

Looking ahead, the meeting explored ways to further SDGs implementation at the local level. A pilot project titled, “Sustainable Waste Management in Nadee Subdistrict Municipality” was presented, along with the utilisation of the Voluntary Local Review as a means to monitor SDGs implementation at the local level. The meeting also exchanged views on the preparation of Thailand’s VNR for 2022.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will submit the meeting’s outcome to the National Committee for Sustainable Development  so that diverse views are reflected in SDGs-related policy formulation at the national level.
