Marilaque: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday summoned a motorcycle rider who survived a crash with a fellow rider after doing a “Superman” stunt while driving along the Marilaque (Marikina-Rizal-Laguna-Quezon) Highway. In a statement, LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said the show cause order (SCO) was sent to the rider’s residence in Lipa City, Batangas province.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mendoza expressed his views on the incident, stating, ‘I personally saw the video and although it was really tragic, that could have not happened if they just chose to be responsible motorcycle riders.’ The LTO has requested the rider to submit a written explanation as to why he should not be punished for reckless driving prior to his participation in an LTO hearing.
‘There will be a hearing on this case as part of the due process and I expect the rider to explain well since what is at stake here is the privilege given to him by the government to ride a motorcycle,’ Mendoza added. The crash resulted in the death of the fellow rider and injured at least six other road users.
The surviving rider, identified as a motovlogger, may face possible license suspension or revocation if it is determined that he is an ‘improper person to operate a motor vehicle.’ The SCO was signed by LTO Calabarzon Regional Director Elmer Decena and was issued to the survivor for ‘recklessly or without reasonable caution and regard for the safety of others performed unsafe maneuvers.’
