Manila: Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairperson Vigor Mendoza II has instructed all regional directors to commence inspections at bus and other transport terminals in anticipation of this year’s Undas, which is observed on November 1 and 2.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mendoza’s directive aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s order to prioritize passenger comfort and safety in public transportation. Mendoza emphasized the importance of ensuring that all buses and other public transport vehicles, including their drivers and conductors, are secure and reliable, allowing passengers to reach their destinations safely and comfortably.
Mendoza highlighted the necessity for clean and operational comfort rooms (CR) in land transport terminals, stressing they should be well-lit and well-ventilated, and accessible to passengers at no or minimal cost. Additionally, the LTFRB mandates that terminals offer comfortable waiting areas and a seamless booking process for travelers.
Mendoza stated that these inspections will not be limited to peak travel periods such as Undas, Christmas, or Holy Week, but will occur regularly. “We will require random checking at least every month of the year,” he asserted.
To ensure adherence to these standards, the LTFRB plans to deploy mystery passengers nationwide to evaluate the condition of bus stations and transport terminals starting October 24.
