Lim, Olivarez Secure Semifinal Spots in PCA Open Tennis Championships


Manila: Top seed Alberto Lim Jr. stayed on track for back-to-back titles after reaching the men’s singles semifinals Thursday in the 42nd Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open Tennis Championships at the PCA indoor shell court in Paco, Manila. Lim, a member of the national team, clobbered wild card Iggy Pantino, 6-1, 6-1, to set up a duel with Nilo Ledama.



According to Philippines News Agency, Ledama pulled off a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Lance Jacob Fernandez in the other quarterfinal match. Meanwhile, second seed Jed Olivarez also earned a semis ticket after eliminating 10-time champion Johnny Arcilla, 6-0, 6-1. Olivarez, who saw action at the Davis Cup in Malaysia last June, will be up against John Benedict Aguilar, who beat Marco Makalintal, 6-0 (ret.).



In the women’s singles division, top seed Kaye Anne Emana downed Nina Angeline Alcala, 6-1, 6-2, to arrange a semifinal showdown with Tiffany Nocos, who prevailed over Anika Diwa, 6-3, 3-0 (ret.). The other semifinal match will feature Justine Maneja and wild card Tenielle Madis. Maneja outplayed Jayden Ballado, 6-4, 6-3, while Madis defeated Elizabeth Abarquez, 6-3, 6-3.
