Ilonggos Encouraged to Utilize Real Property Tax Amnesty Before 2026 Deadline

Iloilo city: The Iloilo Provincial Treasurer’s Office is urging Ilonggos to avail themselves of the amnesty program on real property tax (RPT), which ends on July 5, 2026. In an interview on Thursday, Provincial Treasurer Jean Maire Umadhay said they can visit the municipalities where their properties are situated or the Bayad Center at the provincial capitol.

According to Philippines News Agency, Umadhay emphasized that if property owners are unable to pay their unpaid taxes in full, they have the option to pay in installments until the deadline. She highlighted that under the tax amnesty, only the principal amount needs to be paid as penalties, surcharges, and interests are waived.

Umadhay warned that after the July 5 deadline, penalties will be reinstated, and there is a possibility that properties could be subjected to auction to enforce payment of dues. Delinquent taxes accrue a penalty of 2 percent per month up to but not exceeding 72 percent.

“After the real property tax amnesty, we will schedule the auction of properties that did not avail of the amnesty,” Umadhay noted. The amnesty is provided under Republic Act 12001 or the Real Property Valuation and Assessment Reform Act (RPVARA).

She also mentioned that the collection of real property taxes would continue based on the old assessment, following the approval of an ordinance by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial board) suspending the scheduled RPT increase in the province. Umadhay added that they will await revisions under the RPVARA law in 2028, which will also impact the taxes to be collected.
