Ilocos norte: The provincial government of Ilocos Norte has initiated a fuel subsidy program designed to aid local farmers in enhancing their agricultural operations. This initiative is part of “Agri Ka Dito,” a prominent program spearheaded by the Office of the Governor, aimed at delivering immediate support to community farmers and fisherfolk amid escalating agricultural input costs.
According to Philippines News Agency, Dhianina Torida from the Sustainable Development Center highlighted that PHP6 million has been allocated for this fuel subsidy program, derived from the provincial government’s tobacco excise tax revenue. Torida noted that farmers interested in availing of agricultural assistance can approach the Sustainable Development Center or the Provincial Agriculture Office directly.
The Provincial Agriculture Office has detailed that the subsidy will cover the fuel needs for backhoes used in constructing and rehabilitating small farm reservoirs, as well as for hand tractors and harvester machinery. Crisner Lagazo, an integrated farm owner in Pasuquin, expressed his approval of the initiative, stating it as beneficial news for all farmers upon discovering the program through social media.
To access the fuel assistance, registered farmers must formally submit a request through a letter addressed to Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos. This request will undergo field validation and assessment by authorized government personnel.
Beyond the fuel subsidy, the provincial government offers various forms of agricultural support, including crop assistance, irrigation facilities, livestock provision, fingerlings and fishery paraphernalia, and insurance. Torida further mentioned that all farmers with valid identification under the national Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture are eligible for these governmental aids.
