HERA Director-General Visits Indonesia, Focuses on Strengthening Health Security

Jakarta: The Director-General of the European Commission's Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA), Dr. Florika Fink-Hooijer, met with Indonesia's Minister of Health, H.E. Budi Gunadi Sadikin, in Jakarta on 4 September 2026. Discussions centred on Indonesia's expansion of surveillance capacities, including genomic sequencing as well as local manufacturing capacity. There was a clear commitment to work together on wastewater surveillance going forward.

According to European Union, earlier that day, Director-General Fink-Hooijer, met with the Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, at the ASEAN Secretariat to discuss health emergency preparedness and response to emerging health threats, and to explore deeper cooperation between the EU and ASEAN.
