Los Angeles: The foreign ministry convened an emergency consular meeting on Tuesday with diplomatic missions in Los Angeles and other relevant agencies to discuss strategies for safeguarding South Korean nationals amid intensifying protests against immigration raids in the city.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Yoon Chu-sok, director-general for overseas Koreans and consular affairs, led the videoconference. He emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination and consistently updating South Koreans in the area through safety notices and other communication channels, as noted in a ministry release.
Protests in Los Angeles have escalated following U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy thousands of National Guard troops to suppress violent demonstrations linked to the detention of numerous migrants. Despite the unrest, the ministry confirmed that no South Korean nationals have been reported detained or harmed in relation to the immigration raids.
