Makati city: Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the removal of steel plates along the southbound lane of Magallanes Flyover in Makati City to ensure safer and smoother travel for motorists.
According to Philippines News Agency, the decision came after concerned citizens reported potential safety hazards through a public road monitoring platform, prompting action from DPWH. The steel plates were initially installed to protect ongoing repair works on the flyover’s joints. However, they reportedly caused traffic disruptions as some motorists were avoiding them.
Dizon expressed gratitude to those who reported the issue and explained, “It is necessary to protect the repair works on the joints but we accelerated the repairs and as of last night, the plates are gone and the road is already clean.”
The removal of the steel plates commenced on the night of Oct. 11, after the curing period concluded. By around 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 12, the plates were mostly removed, except for one section where a joint was missing due to ongoing rectification efforts. “There’s only one steel plate left on the road to protect motorists from potholes due to a missing steel joint. Rest assured that it will be repaired within the week,” Dizon added.
Furthermore, Dizon announced the deployment of a team to regularly inspect the conditions of government infrastructures to ensure the convenience of motorists. “I have also ordered that someone should regularly go around our roads to check these problems and fix them immediately so that our motorists will not suffer,” he stated.
