Gingoog City: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of revetment structures along the Gingoog River in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental, providing stronger flood protection in the area.
According to Philippines News Agency, DPWH Region 10 (Northern Mindanao) Director Lilibeth Aparecio stated that the flood protection works were carried out by the Misamis Oriental 1st District Engineering Office, with a total funding of PHP190.96 million sourced from the 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Aparecio mentioned that the project has alleviated previous concerns regarding the devastating effects of flooding, thus enabling an increase in socio-economic activities and boosting agricultural productivity in the area. She added that the undertaking was implemented under multiple contract packages, which included road excavation, hand-laid embankments, installation of structural sheet piles, and the clearing and grubbing of vegetation to make way for a 559-meter-long floodwall.
DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan indicated that the project is part of their ongoing efforts to enhance climate resilience in preparation for the upcoming rainy season. Bonoan also noted that the project aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Build Better More infrastructure program.
