Ilocos norte: The provincial government of Ilocos Norte, through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), has distributed “Go Bags” and life vests to residents living in hazard-prone areas. In an effort to enhance disaster preparedness and response, the initiative aims to equip vulnerable families with essential emergency supplies.
According to Philippines News Agency, PDRRMC officer Marcel Tabije reported that approximately 230 “Go Bags” were distributed to selected families in 24 high-risk barangays. The distribution took place on Monday and included essential items intended to support families during calamities. In addition to the “Go Bags,” around 1,500 life vests were handed over to local government units for subsequent distribution to barangays.
Tabije noted that the initiative was funded by a budget of roughly PHP5 million from the 5 percent Disaster Risk Reduction and Management fund. This budget allocation underscores the provincial government’s commitment to safeguarding its residents against potential disasters.
Pagudpud Mayor Rafael Ralph Benemerito expressed gratitude towards the provincial government for initiating the provision of life-saving kits. He received the “Go Bags” on behalf of 35 family recipients in Barangays Pasaleng, Pancian, Caparispisan, and Poblacion 1, acknowledging the significant impact these resources will have in emergency situations.
The “Go Bags” are equipped with bottled water, canned goods, flashlight, batteries, portable radio, rope, whistle, face masks, lighter, candle, first aid kit, and emergency blanket. These supplies are designed to provide immediate relief and support during emergencies, ensuring that affected families can sustain themselves until further assistance arrives.
Emergency response teams in the coastal and inland towns of Ilocos Norte were also recipients of additional safety equipment, including hard hats and rescue ropes, to enhance their operational readiness and response capabilities.
