Manila: No court order has yet been issued directing the cancellation of resigned lawmaker Zaldy Co’s passport, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said. In a message on Friday night, the agency stated it can only proceed with the cancellation ‘upon receipt of a court order issued by a competent Philippine court instructing the DFA to cancel a Philippine passport.’
According to Philippines News Agency, this procedure is in accordance with Sections 4 and 10 of RA 11983, also known as the New Philippine Passport Act. As of now, the department has not received such an order.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. confirmed on Friday that arrest warrants have been issued against Co and 17 others from the Department of Public Works and Highways and Sunwest Corp. This is in connection with a kickback scheme involving government-led flood control projects.
Co is currently abroad and has previously confirmed, through his lawyer, that he will not return anytime soon due to alleged threats to his life.
