Damaged Bukidnon-Davao City Road to Remain Closed Due to Landslide, Says DPWH

Manila: The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that the Bukidnon-Davao City road located in Sitio Kipolot, Barangay Palacapao, Quezon town in Bukidnon province will remain closed after a landslide caused significant damage over the weekend. DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the decision to keep the road closed, citing safety concerns for the public.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dizon stated that despite calls to reopen the road, the safety of motorists could not be compromised. During a press briefing at the DPWH main office in Port Area, Manila, he expressed his regret over the inconvenience caused but reaffirmed the priority of safeguarding lives. “We cannot risk the lives of the motorists. I’m sorry but I decided that the road will remain closed,” Dizon said.

Dizon further explained that the DPWH is working on constructing a detour road near the affected area to facilitate the movement of people and goods. Although the construction may take some time, efforts are being made to expedite the process, with updates to be announced as progress is made.

In collaboration with the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and local government units, the DPWH is conducting a thorough assessment of the damaged road. Dizon urged the public to trust the expertise of the technical teams involved, assuring that no action will be taken until the road is deemed safe.
