Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc, acting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), has officially declared Ang Probinsyano, Abono, and Murang Kuryente as winners in the May 12, 2025 midterm elections. This proclamation adds new members to the House of Representatives.
According to Philippines News Agency, the ceremony was conducted at the Comelec Session Hall in Intramuros, Manila, where the NBOC, led by Chairperson George Garcia, confirmed Alfred Co delos Santos (Ang Probinsyano), Robert Raymund Estrella (Abono), and Arthur Cua Yap (Murang Kuryente) as the latest members of the House of Representatives. The decision followed the recommendation of the Law Department and Supervisory Group of the NBOC.
Chairperson Garcia explained the computation process for allocating the seats to these organizations, referencing the An Waray vs. Comelec case as a precedent. When An Waray’s accreditation was revoked, the next in line, Akbayan, was proclaimed. Similarly, Abono, Ang Probinsyano, and Murang Kuryente received 254,474, 250,886, and 247,754 votes respectively.
The seats these groups now occupy were previously allocated to the Duterte Youth Party-list. However, the group’s registration was canceled by Comelec due to non-compliance with essential publication and hearing requirements. This procedural failure led to the redistribution of seats.
An Waray’s registration was canceled last year, and Comelec subsequently proclaimed the Akbayan Citizens Action Party as a winning party-list group in the May 2022 elections.
