Lapu-Lapu City: The Lapu-Lapu City National Junior Tennis Championships kicks off May 12 in Cebu with nearly 200 players competing across nine age-group categories for boys and girls. Kathryn Bugna of La Carlota City, Negros Occidental is seeking more titles after securing the girls’ U14 and U16 crowns during the Vistec Roxas National Tennis Championships in Capiz last month.
According to Philippines News Agency, a member of the Batang Onay Tennis Club, Bugna will face stiff challenges in the U14 category, led by top seed Etha Nadine Seno, along with Theriz Zapatos, Sabrina Aldeguer, Abby Joy Castigador, Kate Chavez, and Ninna Orlanes. Seno, Castigador, Chavez, and Loren Nocos are also competing in the U12 category, showcasing their versatility across different age groups.
In the girls’ U16 category, the top four seeds include Isobel Alipo-on, Besper Zapatos, Clodyn Co, and Cyndea Manalo, while the U18 category will see standouts such as Gesellyn Constancio, Besper Zapatos, Mae Parangan, and Lisbeth Calva vying for the title. Meanwhile, the boys’ U18 category features strong competitors like Antonio Ng Jr., Rizzjun Labindao, Chad Cuizon, and Paul Verallo, promising an exciting tournament.
Labindao has also entered the U16 category, which includes players such as Anthony Espinosa, Kenji Kua, and Andrian Rodriguez. In the boys’ U14 category, Kenji Kua, Phine Billones, Chris Villarin, and Ciaran Alipo-on are expected to be strong contenders, while Joshua Ausan, Blaze Sotto, Anselm dela Cruz, and Blake Aroma will compete fiercely in the boys’ U12 category. Ausan and Ni±o Jopia are also set to showcase their skills in the U10 category, rounding off a promising lineup of young talents.
