Brunei’s National Day celebrated in Vientiane

Brunei Ambassador to Laos Na’aim Salleh hosted in Vientiane on Feb 23 a reception to mark the 39th National Day of Brunei Darussalam and the 30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the Lao PDR and Brunei Darussalam.

The event was joined by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith, foreign diplomats and relevant officials of Laos and Brunei.

During the ceremony Ambassador Na’aim Salleh delivered a speech emphasizing the significance and background of the National Day of Brunei Darussalam and highlighting the various achievements in the bilateral cooperation between Laos and Brunei over the past 30 years.

“2023 is an important year for Brunei Darussalam’s relations with Laos as both countries mark 30 years of diplomatic ties,” said Ambassador Na’aim Salleh.

Delivering remarks at the event, DPM Saleumxay Kommasith highly valued the friendship and sound cooperation between the two countries which has been enhanced effectively over the past three decades.

He also appreciated the support and assistance rendered by the government and people of Brunei to the Lao PDR over the past years, noting that such support and assistance has contributed significantly to the socio-economic development in the Lao PDR.

He expressed his wishes that the friendly relations and sound cooperation between Laos and Brunei will continue to be deepened and pursued effectively in the future.

Laos and Brunei have maintained a regular exchange of visits of high-level leaders, as well as people-to-people exchanges. Cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, investment and human resource development has been constantly enhanced.

The state visit to Brunei by President Thongloun Sisoulith at the end of 2022 reaffirmed Laos’ aspirations to deepen ties and cooperation with its ASEAN neighbour.
