Albay Town Monitors River Conditions Amid Persistent Heavy Rains

Camalig: The local government unit of Camalig in Albay province is closely monitoring river channels for possible flooding and lahar due to the continued heavy rains brought by the shear line on Monday. In a phone interview, Tim Florece, Camalig’s information officer, said the river levels remained normal but were approaching the alert stage in some areas due to continuous rainfall.

According to Philippines News Agency, the river channels were in the barangays of Comun, Cotmon, Taladong, Salugan, Ilawod, Libod, and Tagaytay; and lahar-prone areas of Barangay Anoling, Quirangay, Sua, and Tumpa. Florece said personnel of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office were on standby for any eventualities.

“No lahar flows have been reported. We are also monitoring the reports of the affected barangays for possible evacuation but as of now, no evacuation has been reported,” he said. Florece added that aside from the reports, personnel and vehicles are on standby to ensure the safety of the residents.

The public was also advised to stay vigilant and contact the Camalig Command Center (CCC) at 0920-234-0738 or the MDRRMO at 0927-974-4966, 0963-007-4854 for emergencies and other concerns.
