Tigers Set to Extend Winning Streak Against KBO’s Last-Place Kiwoom Heroes

Seoul: The hottest team in South Korean baseball will visit the coldest one to begin the new week. The Kia Tigers will ride their season-best six-game winning streak into a three-game series against the Kiwoom Heroes, starting Tuesday at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. This series marks the beginning of the Tigers’ six-game road trip to the nation’s capital, followed by a visit to the LG Twins for three games at Jamsil Baseball Stadium from Friday to Sunday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Tigers have not lost since June 13 and boast the best record in June in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) at 12-5-1 (wins-losses-ties). This impressive run has propelled them to fourth place in the standings at 38-33-2, just 4 1/2 games behind the first-place Hanwha Eagles. In stark contrast, the Heroes have the league’s worst record at 21-53-2, with only one win in their last ten games.

The middle of the standings in the 10-team league remains tight, with the seventh-place KT Wiz (37-35-3) only 1 1/2 games behind the Tigers. Winning or losing streaks of any length could lead to significant shifts in team positions. The Eagles, leading the standings at 43-29-1, have maintained their top spot for over a week. They will face the streaky Samsung Lions (38-35-1) and SSG Landers (36-34-3) on the road this week.

The KT Wiz, experiencing a slump with just one win in five games last week, have fallen from their earlier fourth-place position. The upcoming week poses challenges as they host the Twins for three games in Suwon and then travel to face the third-place Lotte Giants (41-31-3) in Busan, located 320 kilometers southeast of the capital.
