256K Families Affected by Davao Twin Quakes, Reports NDRRMC


Davao city: The number of families affected by the October 10 twin earthquakes that struck Manay, Davao Oriental, and surrounding areas continues to rise, based on the official government tally. From 200,914 families on Tuesday, the figure surged to 256,036 families by Wednesday, which translates to 1,124,611 individuals.



According to Philippines News Agency, the affected families are spread across 491 barangays in Region 11, also known as the Davao Region, and Caraga. As of Wednesday afternoon, 748 families are receiving assistance in nine evacuation centers, while 52 families are being aided elsewhere.



The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that it is in the process of validating eight deaths, all occurring within the Davao Region. Furthermore, 23 out of the 73 reported injuries have been confirmed. The earthquakes, which registered magnitudes of 7.4 and 6.8, resulted in damage to 10,267 houses and the destruction of 715 more.



The financial impact on infrastructure in the Davao Region and Caraga is estimated at PHP115.38 million.
